Maple: City Hall, Wonderland, the hospital and Maple GO

Maple is the community around Major Mackenzie Drive and Keele Street in the centre of Vaughan — home to Vaughan City Hall, Canada's Wonderland, the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, Maple GO on the Barrie line and the Eagles Nest golf club — with subdivisions stretching from Rutherford north to Teston and from Jane east to Dufferin. Pearson is 26 to 28 minutes via the 400 south and the 407 west; downtown is 40 minutes down the 400. Bookings from Maple are airport transfers, hospital and medical days, Wonderland and Vaughan Mills group outings, weddings and the university drop-off.

Maple was a village on the railway — Maple GO is Ontario's oldest operating railway station, with passenger service since 1853 — and it has become the civic heart of the city: City Hall on Major Mackenzie, the hospital that opened in 2021 at Major Mackenzie and Jane, the amusement park that makes Vaughan famous, and mile after mile of subdivisions between them. The streets are new and regular, the driveways are wide, and the community's two chokepoints — Jane Street on a Wonderland night and Major Mackenzie during its endless widening — are the things a Maple chauffeur plans around.

The airport run from Maple

From Major Mackenzie and Keele the chauffeur takes Keele or Jane south to the 400, the 400 south two exits to the 407, and the 407 west to the 427 south and the 409: 26 to 28 minutes off-peak, the toll inside the fare. In the morning rush the 400 south of Rutherford is slow and the chauffeur may go west on Major Mackenzie to the 427 extension instead, which is toll-free and, from western Maple, sometimes quicker. Late at night the 400 to the 401 west is free and fast. From the northern subdivisions near Teston, add five minutes. Maple residents flying Porter can reach Billy Bishop in 45 minutes down the 400 and the Gardiner.

Pickup logistics

Maple's subdivisions are courts and crescents off collector roads — Melville, Peter Rupert, Keele, Dufferin — and every house looks the same at 5 a.m.; the chauffeur's arrival text carries the vehicle description and the confirmation carries the plate. Townhouse blocks off Major Mackenzie have visitor parking the chauffeur uses. The condominium towers near the 400 and Rutherford have porte-cochères. On a summer Saturday evening between about 9:30 and 11, Jane Street and Major Mackenzie near Wonderland are stopped for the park exodus and fireworks — a pickup in the streets east of Jane at that hour needs ten to twenty extra minutes, and the chauffeur builds it in.

Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital

The hospital at Major Mackenzie and Jane is the reason for a category of bookings that did not exist in Vaughan before 2021: the medical day. A patient who cannot drive after a procedure, a relative visiting for a week, a discharge home to Kleinburg or Woodbridge — black car point-to-point or an hourly chauffeur who waits. The main entrance loop takes a sedan or an SUV; the chauffeur knows the drop-off layout and will come to the door. The Luxury SUV is the vehicle for anyone with a walker or a hip.

Wonderland and Vaughan Mills

Canada's Wonderland — 330 acres, the most visited seasonal amusement park in North America in 2022 — is in Maple, and a group booking to the park is a Sprinter or a party bus for a birthday, a corporate outing or a school group, dropped at the designated area and collected there. Vaughan Mills, the region's largest mall, is five minutes south at Rutherford and the 400, with Bass Pro and LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, and a shopping day with a chauffeur waiting is a common hourly booking for visitors and for Boxing Day. Both guides have the pickup points and the traffic warnings.

Weddings from Maple

Maple's weddings run to the halls — most within ten minutes: Paradise and Bellvue Manor on Jane in Concord, the Venetian on Romina, Chateau Le Jardin in Woodbridge — with ceremonies at St. Padre Pio, St. David's and the other parishes and photographs at the McMichael in Kleinburg or on the Eagles Nest grounds. The wedding page has the plan; the stretch is the couple's car.

Golf, and Eagles Nest

Eagles Nest Golf Club on Dufferin at Major Mackenzie is a public course that hosts corporate golf days and weddings; a chauffeured SUV for the foursome from the office or the hotel, waiting for the round and dinner, is an hourly booking. Further north along Dufferin and Keele the King City and Nobleton courses are fifteen minutes away.

Corporate Maple

City Hall, the hospital, the school board offices and the businesses along Major Mackenzie and Keele run corporate accounts for the Pearson run, the downtown meeting and the visiting delegation. The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre towers are ten minutes south down Jane.

Schools, proms and the September drop-off

Maple High, St. Joan of Arc, St. Jean de Brebeuf, Tommy Douglas and the others hold their proms at the halls in June. In September the one-way transfer to Queen's, Western, Waterloo, Guelph or McMaster with a Luxury SUV full of a first-year's belongings is priced by the reservation engine from the addresses.

Routes from Maple

Pearson in 26–28; Billy Bishop in 45; downtown in 40; Niagara Falls in 100; Blue Mountain in 95 straight up the 400 and Highway 26 — Maple is the Vaughan community closest to the 400 north, so ski weekends and Muskoka (110 minutes) are quickest from here; Buffalo Airport in two hours plus the border; Hamilton Airport in 75.

Booking from Maple

Address in the engine, fare fixed. Add the flight, the child seats, and — on a Wonderland night — the note that you are east of Jane so the pickup time is set with margin. For the hospital, add the entrance and whether the passenger needs the chauffeur at the door.

The streets, for anyone booking a pickup

Major Mackenzie Drive is Maple's spine — City Hall, the hospital at Jane, the GO station at Keele, the churches and the plazas — six lanes in places and under widening for years between Highway 27 and Weston. Keele Street runs north–south through the old village core with Maple GO, the oldest operating station in Ontario, and the older houses; north of Major Mackenzie it is the road to King City. Jane Street carries Wonderland, the hospital and the route south to the 400 and the VMC, and is stopped on fireworks nights. Dufferin is the eastern edge with Eagles Nest and the road to Thornhill. Rutherford Road is the southern commercial edge with Vaughan Mills at the 400. Teston Road is the northern edge and the newest subdivisions. The 400 has interchanges at Rutherford and Major Mackenzie and is the road to everything: south to the 407 and Pearson, south to the 401 and downtown, north to Barrie, Blue Mountain and Muskoka. Melville, Peter Rupert, Vellore Woods and the crescents off them are where the houses are, and where a chauffeur's arrival text with the vehicle description matters most at 5 a.m.

A Maple week, from the dispatcher's screen

Monday: 4:30 a.m. Terminal 1 for a City Hall director flying to Ottawa, a 3:30 a.m. Hamilton Airport run for a family on a Flair flight to Halifax, a medical day at Cortellucci for a Melville Avenue resident, and the September university drop-off to Guelph in an SUV. Tuesday: a hospital physician's Pearson run on a practice account, and a Luxury SUV for a family at the Highway 7 hotels doing Wonderland and Vaughan Mills by the hour. Wednesday: a Premium Sedan for a visiting supplier from the airport to a plant on Keele. Thursday: dinner downtown for two couples in an SUV by the hour. Friday: a Sprinter of fourteen to a concert, and a cottage run to Port Carling at two in the afternoon. Saturday: a wedding — St. Padre Pio at two, the McMichael for photographs, Bellvue Manor at six — and a Wonderland birthday party bus for twenty-four. Sunday: the cottage run home, and a Blue Mountain family back down the 400. All from cars positioned in Maple.

Maple's calendar

Wonderland's season — May opening, the summer fireworks Saturdays, Halloween Haunt in October, WinterFest in December — sets the traffic calendar for Jane Street and the pickup margins for the streets east of it. The hospital runs every day of the year. Maple GO's Barrie-line schedule brings commuters to the station at Keele in the morning and the chauffeur-to-door connection in the evening. The parishes' feast days and the community's weddings fill the halls on Jane Street ten minutes south. And the 400 north on a Friday from May to October is the road every Maple family knows too well, which is why the cottage run is the booking that makes a chauffeur worth it.

Maple GO and the Barrie line

Maple GO at Keele and Major Mackenzie — passenger service since 1853, the oldest operating station in Ontario — and Rutherford GO to the south are the Barrie line's Vaughan stations, with weekday trains to Union in about forty minutes and, increasingly, all-day service. A chauffeur at Maple GO for the evening train completes the trip to Kleinburg, King City or a Maple crescent for a commuter without a car; a chauffeur to the station at seven takes the Kleinburg executive to the train rather than the 400. The VMC and Highway 407 terminal guide covers the subway; GO Transit has the timetable.

Maple's calendar of the road

The two chokepoints have their hours: Jane Street at Wonderland from 9:30 to 11 on fireworks nights and from 9 to 10:30 on summer Saturday mornings; Major Mackenzie between Highway 27 and Weston at school times on weekdays through the widening. Keele through the old village is slow on Sunday mornings for the churches; Rutherford at the 400 is slow whenever Vaughan Mills is busy. The dispatcher's pickup times for Maple addresses carry those margins, and the chauffeur's route around them — Keele instead of Jane, Teston instead of Major Mackenzie — is the local knowledge the page is about.

What Maple residents actually book

Airport transfers; the hospital day; the Wonderland or Vaughan Mills group; the ski weekend up the 400; the wedding; the September drop-off; and dinner downtown. Cars are positioned in Maple, so the 5 a.m. pickup off Major Mackenzie is twelve minutes away, not forty.

FAQ

Maple: questions answered

How long is Maple to Pearson?

Twenty-six to twenty-eight minutes off-peak via the 400 south, the 407 west and the 427; the toll is inside the fare. Western Maple sometimes goes by Major Mackenzie and the 427 extension instead.

Do you pick up at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital?

Yes — at the main entrance loop, with the chauffeur at the door if the passenger needs help. The hospital guide has the layout.

What happens on a Wonderland fireworks night?

Jane Street and Major Mackenzie near the park are stopped for the exodus between about 9:30 and 11. Pickups east of Jane at that hour are set with ten to twenty extra minutes; Wonderland pickups are booked for an hour after the show.

Is Maple the best Vaughan community for Blue Mountain and Muskoka?

Yes — it sits at the foot of the 400 north, so ski weekends and cottage runs are quickest from here.

Do you pick up at Maple GO?

Yes — at the station's pickup area against the train time, completing the trip to Kleinburg, King City or a Maple address.

How long is Maple to Blue Mountain?

About 95 minutes off-peak straight up the 400 and Highway 26 — the shortest of any Vaughan community — and 125 to 140 on a Friday evening in ski season.

Is Vaughan City Hall a common pickup?

Yes — for council meetings, the courts and the civic events; the chauffeur uses the civic centre's visitor drive on Major Mackenzie and waits in the lot on an hourly booking.

Is this a Maple taxi?

Not a metered one. A Maple taxi is the right choice for a short trip you did not plan; for the airport, the hospital or an evening out, a pre-booked car from Maple has a fixed fare with the 407 toll inside it.
